Legal Documemts

Getting married is a life changing event and under the Marriage Act of 1961 there are certain obligations that must be met prior to your big day.

Irrespective of where you want to get married in Australia, you MUST complete and lodge the Notice of Intended Marriage Form (NoIM)

To Download Notice of Intended Marriage noticeofintendedmarriageform.pdf

Along with this form you will need to  supply a Birth Certificate from the country of your birth, and if you've been married before a Divorce or Death Certificate will also be required.

The Notice of intended Marriage must be lodged with me no earlier than 18 months before your intended marriage and no later than one month and one day prior to your your marriage. I normally complete the form with you at our first meeting. However, if you wish or need to complete this form before then please use BLACK pen and BLOCK letters.

If either partner has been married in the past, a "Decree Absolute" must be produced (Only from the recent marriage) if you have been married once before.

A "Death Certificate" is also required where the partner of a previous marriage is deceased.

You may want to apply for a Certified Queensland Marriage Certificate

Where  can I get my Birth Certificate?

If you were born in Australia, go to Birth Deaths and Marriages (BDM) websites from the State/Territory you were born and apply for your Birth Certificate. Costs may vary and it takes about six weeks for them to be posted out to you although if you require it sooner, there may be an additional fee.

  • Firstly you must satisfy the same legal requirements as a person living in Australia i.e. that you are free to marry and this you will need to prove when lodging the Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) with your Marriage Celebrant.

  • If you or your fiancĂ© are applying for entry into Australia under the prospective marriage (fiancĂ©) plan I am able to assist you with this process, to get things moving.
  • Once deposit has been paid by either partner, I am able to supply you with a letter and a NOIM Form (Notice of Intended Marriage) which you then present to the Embassy or Consulate.
  • It is advisable to consult your Migration Agent for details that you might need from your Marriage Celebrant.
